Hi all! My name is Michelle Lopez, a senior who is majoring in Marketing with a concentration in Finance. I was raised in Williamsburg, Virginia, and my family is from Peru. This summer I was a Marketing & Communications intern at IBM. Throughout my internship my team and I created a content strategy to persuade developers to choose IBM over their competitors. On campus I am involved in LASU and Documentation, Analysis, Transcription of Language in Society (DATLaS) Research Lab. As Head Research Assistant for DATLaS, I interview spanish-speakers along the Eastern Shore of Virginia to gather information of the experiences, challenges, and hopes while living in the United States. Yo! I am Brayan Juarez, I am a senior majoring in Accounting with a concentration in Business Analytics. I am from the Eastern Shore of Virginia, and my family is Mexican. Hello! My name is Giselle (Gigi) Figueroa, and I am a senior double majoring in International Relations and Hispanic Studies. I am from Waynesboro, Virginia, but my family is Mexican. I love studying human rights-related topics in Latin America. I interned in Argentina this summer with the Comisión Provincial por la Memoria's committee against torture where I interviewed people in the Argentine prison system. In my free time, I enjoy making playlists and listening to music (always open to recs), thrifting, reading, watching old telenovelas, and making impulse purchases. Hello everyone!! My name is Astrid Garcia, I am a senior double majoring in History and Hispanic Studies. I live in Alexandria, Virginia but was born in El Salvador. Outside of LASU, I volunteer for a non-profit organization that assists low-income Latine residents facing economic instability within the city of Alexandria. I enjoy working with this organization because it allows me to serve as a bridge between many different cultures and social services. In my free time, I love reading a good book, rewatching my comfort shows, and spending quality time with my friends and family. Hi & welcome! My name is Carolina (aka Caro) Rivera and I am a senior studying International Relations and Hispanic Studies. I am first-generation Peruvian and Puerto-Rican and am originally from Herndon, VA. However, I spent most of my life in Okinawa, Japan. I love to play tennis, bake (I can whip up some mean alfajores), paint and hang with my friends & fam. Outside of LASU, I conduct research and analysis in geoParsing’s geospatial evaluation and observation lab (geoLab), student conduct council and club tennis.
